St Andrews CathedralSt Andrews means much more than golf to many Scots and to many others from all parts of the world. Generations past and present look back on St Andrews as their Alma Mater, as the town where they went to school and one of its best known schools is  St Leonards. Many others will remember St Andrews as their Alma Mater and will be graduates of  Scotland's oldest university and will think back fondly on their student days there, browsing through the town's  shops  or evenings spent in the Byre Theatre. If you are visiting and need to know what is on the programme of events take a look at the Community Council  for a guide to what is on.

But for the residents of St Andrews the task of preserving the heritage is one that is close to the heart of the St Andrews Preservation Trust  and among the residents one in particular brings the  history of golf to life. And of course the Mecca of golf is the  Old Course  and the world famous Royal and Ancient Golf Club  or R & A as it is known world wide.

Supporting all of these local institutions is St Andrews of Scotland who have the exclusive rights to use the official Armorial Bearings of the Royal and Ancient Burgh of St Andrews in connection with the St Andrews Collection. Armorial bearings are part of Scotland's heritage dating back to a 1627 Act of the Scottish Parliament.

Control is rigorously exercised by the Court of the Lord Lyon on behalf of the Crown.

The unique rights to these Armorial beaings are the property of the Community Council of St. Andrews whose permission is gratefully acknowledged as is the assistance of the Court of the Lord Lyon in Edinburgh
