The Royal & Ancient St Andrews Tartan

St Andrews tartanScotland - land of tourism, romance and history

Allover the World, wherever Scots have explored and settled, they have brought with them Scotland's own distinct heritage. Typified in the music of the bagpipes, the poetry of Robert Bums, the game of golf, the spirit of whisky and of course the unique and distinctive tartans. Many visitors to Scotland know St.Andrews as "the Home of Golf' but the truth is far more than that.

St.Andrew is the Patron Saint of Scotland; the cross of St.Andrew, the Saltire, is the national flag; the clan, military and regional tartans all have their "Home" in Scotland, linking Scots and their heritage throughout the entire World. Yet, surprisingly, there has never been a truly official, recognised tartan which could be worn with pride by all Scots, their descendents and everyone who has a love of Scotland, until now, with the authentic design and lineage of The Royal & Ancient St.Andrews Tartan.

Closely linked with the official Armorial Bearings of the Royal & Ancient Burgh of St.Andrews, granted by The Court of The Lord Lyon, Scotland's heraldic authority and now vested in the elected Community Council of St.Andrews, the new tartan has official approval and is uniquely registered, so that it may be worn as Scotland's own tartan. Each metre of material produced ensures that all citizens of St.Andrews under whose official 'Logo' it is made, benefit from royalties to protect the heritage of the Royal & Ancient Burgh for generations to come.

Designed and made by traditional methods on hand looms in the Scottish Borders, the distinctive sets echo the 'royal & ancient' theme. 'Royal' through the dominant colour of royal blue from the Armorial Bearings and the Saltire, contrasting with the subtle dyes of the traditional 'ancient' colours. This blend of colour truly echoes all the symbolism of Scotland, its colour, history and nostalgia but with a modern approach. St.Andrews is indeed the 'Home of Golf; St.Andrew represents all that is 'home'to Scots, the history, religion and fierce independence of spirit.

It is right that this Universal Royal & Ancient St.Andrews Tartan demonstrates the love of 'Home' for all time.
